Linda Green, nomination for positon of Councillor for Valleys Ward, Adelaide Hills Council
Conservative, community focused and broad minded I have served eight years as a Councillor for Torrens Valley ward.
I have served on the following committees Council Assessment Panel, East Waste Board and CEO Review Panel.I have chaired the Strategic Planning Development Policy committee which all Councillors were a member off.
Also I have served on the following Advisory Groups: Rural Land Management , Social Planning, Animal Management Plan and Adelaide Hills Business Tourism. From these groups much has been considered to go to Council as recommendations, recently the work of the Adelaide Hills Business and Tourism Advisory Group has led to the development of the Arts & Heritage Hub in Lobethal, opportunity for business owners to purchase some of the property and community groups to have some space.
Growing up on an orchard in Cudlee Creek, attending Millbrook Primary School, and then Birdwood High School, meeting my husband , Chris Green at local dances, marrying into a family orchard business at Lenswood, starting a family at Lenswood before moving to a grazing property at Mount Torrens running sheep and cows, before moving into the town of Mount Torrens with my husband and three daughters,I work as Business Manager for a training organisation at Forreston.
I see agriculture as a vital part of the Adelaide Hills landscape, it shapes our landscape and adds significant value to our economy. I see the value of World Heritage investigations in the conversations keeping agriculture in the forefront of Local, State and Federal Government considerations.
Volunteer for Mt Torrens CFS, former Mount Torrens CFS Cadet leader, Chair of Mount Torrens Primary School, Birdwood High School, President of Mount Torrens Park, President of Mount Torrens Netball , I value the enormous contribution volunteers and their organisations make for our communities . I seek to support them and therefore strengthen all of our communities.
Rubbish has been a focus for me. Recycling has become even more important with China Sword. I believe in a truly circular economy, where if we create something , the item can be recycled, the packaging can be recylced and we support, and buy goods, that are made from reclycled Australian material. Measuring what we currently recyle will enable a conversation about the product we buy in the future and how much of it should be Australian recycled material.
Putting the right items in the correct bin is also important. East Waste has developed a great app, 'Which Bin", for example food waste goes in the green bin, reducing whats in the blue bin.
I have no political affiliations, I work with all tiers of government in a constructive manner to get best outcome for our people and our communities.
As we work with the current ward structure I will be coming out to meet different communities, I look forward to meeting you, listening, engaging and representing you. If I am elected its important that all five Councillors work together to attend commnuity events and ensure that people have a connection with their Local Government.
